We didn't get the first expansion for 3.5 years. There's plenty to do in the base game that doesn't require an expansion. At some point, if you want to keep playing, you're going to want to buy an expansion. At the very least you can't get a permanent mount without one.

So we're lead to believe this game is free to play, but in reality its just another piece of crap trial version that pushes the "Buy our expansions" in your face 24/7, no matter what you try to do.
