The 16-80XF has a constant aperture of F4, which is one stop slower than the F2.8 of the 16-55mm. The 18-55mm has an aperture advantage on the wide end (f2.8), though the F4 maximum aperture is shared over a lot of the zoom range. It’s that smaller maximum aperture that allowed Fuji to deliver this focal range in such a compact body, however.

For myself I appreciate having three lenses with the same 67mm filter size (Viltrox 13mm, Tamron 17-70 and Fuji 70-300mm). Similar to the 16-55, I'm hoping the Tamron can do some wide and tele astrophotography at 2.8 as well; the Lenstip review indicates its coma and astigmatism levels are (relatively) low. We'll see 🤔🙂

If Sony can design a full frame 24-70mm f/4.0 that offers a slightly broader zoom range and 25% less weight than the Fuji 16-55mm f/2.8, Actually, the 16-55 offers the wider zoom range - a 24-84mm equivalent. Just sayin'. there is clearly room for improvement. The Fujifilm 16-55mm F2.8 is a versatile lens that allows you to shoot landscapes and portraiture. The official designation of this lens is XF 16-55 mm f/2.8 R LM WR. Let me quickly go over these terms: XF: is the designation for the X-Series high end lenses. 16-55 mm: is the zoom range. f/2.8: is the widest aperture setting. This lens is continuous f/2.8 throughout the zoom range.
Fuji 16/1.4 has 81.3 degrees FoV for JPEG files and 81.9 degrees for RAW files. The difference between JPEG and RAW is a minor 0.6-degree in-camera correction. Judging by corrected JPEG (81.3 degrees) Fuji 16/1.4 is 1.7 degrees wider than 17mm (79.7 degrees) and 1.8 degrees narrower than 16mm (83.1 degrees). So 16/1.4 is actually around 16.5/1.4.
From samples, the Sigma has more color fringing and the bokeh isn't as nice, while the Sony 16-55 has almost no fringing in most situations. The 16-55 is also better sealed, and has more physical controls. However, it is pretty heavy (although not uncomfortably so) and is obviously a lot more expensive.

It is small and inconspicuous, and compared to the XF16mm f/1.4, this new 16mm is a mouse next to and elephant. It gives way for really unobtrusive shooting, hence it is perfect for getting up close in street- and documentary photography. For travelling this lens is also perfect.
